Niyonambaza Pontien who lives in Munyana Cell, Minazi Sector in Gakenke District says that he has improved significantly with the help of pig farming, As an inspiring story that can change ones life style and mentality.

Niyonambaza explains that he started this farm as a self-employment venture after finishing high school and spent six years without a job, He continued to show that during the period of unemployment, the job he found could be paid less than one hundred thousand.

It’s just that after making corrections based on the knowledge he had, he thought about what could improve him or what could give him money so that he could improve himself and not look for a job again, That’s where he got the idea of modern pig breeding after going on a field trip to visit other pig breeders in different places in Gakenke District.

Niyonamba continued to say that he started pig farming from one pig and its calf where he bought hundreds of thousands of pigs as an experiment, The pig gave him nine more, so he had the idea to expand the project and he has been taking care of the farm for three years, where he has now reached sixty pigs, but he has worked more than six hundred hours.

Niyonambaza insists that the pigs he sold have improved him significantly where he has bought a new motorbike, his two children are studying in the best private institutions in Kigali, he has bought land, plots and graduated from the University in the ‘Agribusiness’ department thanks to pig farming.

“I don’t compare [breeding] to anything,” he said, He also said that the place he reached was interesting so that he got the salary he wanted, After renovating his farm into a modern farm, pigs between four and six months old sell for two hundred thousand, but there are others who have one that costs between eight hundred thousand and one hundred million rupees.

In his message, Niyonambaza encourages young people to raise pigs in a modern way because “there is money there that can raise you quickly and you will leave even those who have been in their twenties or thirties have started another business.”

He continues: “Raising a pig requires taking care of it, loving it, following it day by day, investing all your wisdom and effort. It does not require raising a lot of money to start raising a pig, but it requires giving it time because a pig makes a person disciplined.”

Niyonambala praises the government for encouraging people to participate in livestock farming because it helps them get out of poverty, For example, he explains that he earns at least eight hundred thousand per month,

the money he calculates after paying for all the essentials he needs to make his farm run smoothly, He continues to emphasize that at the time these properties have a value of thirty million Rwandan francs.
