President Kagame repeated this on Friday, March 8, 2024, when he addressed the participants of the annual International Women’s Day, an event attended by many people, mostly women.
When he addressed the participants of the event, President Kagame returned to the role of women in rebuilding the country after the difficult times it went through.
He said, “International Women’s Day is a very important day. In the history of this country, but especially in the construction of our country, it had a bad history, destroyed it, and rebuilt it. The woman played a very important role.”
The Head of State continued to say that women played a role in liberating the country, as well as in continuing to rebuild it.
He said, “Woman played an important role in the liberation of this country, because they were there in the war. The rest is common knowledge that we all know, a woman is a mother, she takes care of children and brings up men. Men, even if we look at you here, we just cry, without a woman to help you and build you, it becomes a problem. So you understand that this is why a woman is called the pillar of the house.”
He continued to remind the participants of the event that Women’s Day should remind Rwandans, where they came from and where they are going.
He said, “Today, whenever you happen to be, you will always remind us where we came from, where we are and where we are going, and why we have not reached where we should have reached. We are looking for development, we want the country to develop, but you always have to wonder where I come from? Where was I 10, 15 years ago? Where am I now in the journey of self-improvement?”
He said, “Starting in 2000, we set ourselves a 20-year journey. Now that we have reached another 30-year journey, we must ask ourselves why we haven’t gotten there yet, what happened, who among us has not fulfilled his responsibilities, what can we do, how can we speed it up?”
He went on to say that the same should apply to all other movements, including the one to give women their rights.
President Kagame believes that a woman is like a pillar of a big house, so that the house can continue to stand.
He said, “A woman as a pole is asked about what’s at home and what’s outside. So you understand that it is a very important responsibility, and those who keep asking or looking for a woman to give him rights, where does it come from, where is the disagreement? What is the disagreement?”
President Kagame also said that since Rwanda has prioritized the development of women, the benefits are obvious and he himself will see them.
In this event, different women gave testimony of their achievements, thanks to the fact that the State of the Union gave them the right to speak, give them their birthright, study, work, and continue to work in the development and development of their country.
