Minister of Youth, Dr. Abdallah Utumatwishima said that since his childhood he never had the dream of becoming a Minister because of the history and social conditions of the family he comes from.
This was announced by Minister DR Utumatwishima on Tuesday, January 24, 2024, on the second day of the negotiation meeting in a discussion on the role of youth in determining the future of Rwanda, Minister Dr Utumatwishima was asked if he felt that he would be the one, he replied that he never had that dream in his childhood because he ran away feeling that he was a person who did not have such a chance.
He said, “Many people in their 40s don’t lie to you that they once dreamed of becoming great people and becoming ministers because the dream we had in our childhood was to run away because at that time we were children and our country was in struggle for liberation”.
Minister Dr. Utumatwishima says that in those times when they were blessed they did not run away when there was another opportunity to get food once a day.
Minister Dr. Utumatwishima says that many children did not have the dream of learning because in those times there was a problem of not giving opportunities to everyone because there were some parts of the country where we were allowed to go to study in secondary schools and children from rich families and some of them were in the current government. at that time.
Minister Dr. Utumatwishima says that after the Genocide, Tutsi’s confidence was also lost because they were always afraid of hearing that they will be held accountable for the crimes committed by their families during the Genocide, which prevented them from having the opportunity to study.
He said, “When Rwanda was liberated, there were people who were still in poverty, and there were others who had survived the Genocide against the Tutsis, so when we were in high school, it was hard to believe that it would return because we felt that we would be held accountable for what our neighbors, our fathers and our ancestors did. at that time”.
The Minister of Youth says that after finishing high school he had a dream of studying medicine and they gave him that and that’s when his hope started to return.
He said, “Even though confidence has returned, I have never had anything to be a Minister, that’s why I’m taking this opportunity to thank the President of the Republic for trusting me to put me in the leadership and I thank him on behalf of many people, the youth, for the good leadership that gives all Rwandans equal opportunities.
