A study by the UK’s End Fuel Poverty coalition, shows that up to 5,000 people will die in the last severe cold to hit the country in 2023, due to the lack of heating in their homes.

This report calls on the British government to reform the housing system and reduce the cost of electricity, so that even the most disadvantaged people in the country can take care of themselves in terms of their ability, and not die of ‘extremely cold due to the lack of heating in the house where they live.

One of the leaders of the End Fuel Poverty coalition, Simon Francis, says that in their research, it has been shown that 8.3 million people living in the UK are in poverty which makes them live in houses that cannot be heated when it comes to winter.

In a recent interview with Euronews Television, Simon Francis said that while the poor people of that country are in danger, it seems that some ministries are watching their lives in danger and doing nothing.

He said, “While the people are in danger, the ministers are sitting and watching how their lives and deaths happen by chance. Instead of doing something about the price of electricity, they let the commercial companies start using the courts to force people to pay in advance.”

The price of electricity in the UK has continued to increase after the Covid-19 epidemic and is expected to increase even more in the coming days.

This makes the End Fuel Poverty coalition warn that if we don’t take action, the extreme cold that will hit the country this year could leave many more people dead.
