The President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Felix Tshisekedi emphasized that his forces will mercilessly destroy those in the M23 who have occupied the territory of his country, and revealed that he does not want any talks between him and Rwanda.
He announced this on January 30, 2024 in talks with representatives of their countries in RD Congo.
Tshisekedi said that his government will not agree to any dialogue with Rwanda because it has taken Congo’s land, through the M23 group.
He said, “No talks can connect us with Rwanda while it controls part of our land.”
He assured that the army of RD Congo, FARDC, will do everything possible, pursue the enemy and press on Congolese territory.
He said that as the commander-in-chief of the RD Congo army, he will not betray anyone who denied the sovereignty of his country.
Tshisekedi added that the decisions of the Nairobi and Luanda agreements will be implemented when Rwanda leaves his country.
He said, “This plan is still the only legitimate way to peacefully resolve the conflict between our country and the aggressor, the Republic of Rwanda.”
The state of Congo does not want talks with M23, which it calls a terrorist group, even though decisions have been made at the regional level asking both sides to lay down their arms and move towards the process of dialogue.
It is at a time when the Congolese army has been defeated by M23, although this group says that the government forces are the ones who provoked them.
Meanwhile, Congo accuses Rwanda of helping M23, which it denies, showing that it is an excuse so that Congo will not be asked why it refused to implement what it signed with that group.
