The famous Lupita Nyong’o explained how the dress she appeared wearing in the second part of ‘Black Panther’ known as ‘Wakanda Forever’, came from a traditional Rwandan dress, known as mushanana.
This is the white dress Lupita Nyong’o who plays Nakia wears in the scene of the movie ‘Black Pather: Wakanda Forever’, which starts with the funeral of T’Challa who was the king of Wakanda, which is Chadwick Boseman, who passed away in 2020.
Through Instagram, Lupita Nyong’o explained how the dress she was wearing was made, from the mushana worn by Rwandans in various events. It’s a dress made by Ruth E. Carter, who specializes in making clothes used in various films, and also made the one in Black Panther.
Lupita Nyongo’o, a 40-year-old Kenyan who has made history in Hollywood, said that when she went to see the model, he showed her the idea that she wanted the dress and asked him to add something, and she immediately remembered the Kenyan who met her brother.
She said, “When I went to try on clothes from Wakanda Forever, Ruth was still looking for a dress for Nakia to take to Ramonda’s. He tried to show me the ideas he had collected, he wanted to hear what I had to post.”
He continued, “At that time, I had left Kenya for a few days, my brother Fiona attended the wedding of Rwandan friends wearing their traditional dress. I showed Ruth that photo and immediately gave her the idea of this dress that she made, this dress I really liked.”
Ruth E. Carter designed this dress for Lupita Nyong’o based on the Rwandan legend, who was recently awarded the Oscar Award 2023 in the category of fashion artist who created the best clothes worn in the movie ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’.
Lupita Nyong’o usually wears African clothes. In 2020 he told Vogue Magazine that he likes to work with African fashion artists, because he wants to show the culture of his place of origin and the local fashion that has developed.
