It is often among those who underestimate or deny the Genocide of the Tutsis, you will hear them say that it happened as an accident and that it was caused by the anger of the Hutus due to the prediction of the plane of Habyarimana Juvenal who was the President.
It is often said and some people fall into that trap, but the evidence that the Genocide had been planned for a long time in Rwanda was clearly revealed in a few minutes after Habyarimana’s flight was predicted on the evening of April 6, 1994.
On the night of April 6, 1994, after the Falcon 50 plane that was carrying President Habyarimana Juvenal, the Interahamwe and the soldiers of the unit that protected President Habyarimana began to set up roadblocks in many areas of the city of Kigali and to kill the Tutsis.
The first Tutsis that the Interahamwe and the soldiers tried to kill were those who fled to Stade Amahoro in Remera, which was considered a safe place because the United Nations UNAMIR was stationed there.
That plan was hindered by fighting between the RPF Inkotanyi Army and the soldiers protecting the head of the country, according to the book of the Ministry of Rwandan Unity called ‘Preparation and implementation of the Genocide plan against the Tutsis in Rwanda’ , it shows.
On that date, Major Aloys Ntabakuze, who was in charge of the Para-commando unit living in the Kanombe military base, ordered the soldiers under his command to start killing Tutsis and dissidents living near the Kanombe military base, in Kajagari.
At the same time, about 17 Tutsis, mostly priests and nuns, were killed in the Jesuit Center Christus in Remera by the government soldiers who were guarding the head of state. Everything was done using lists of people to be killed, which shows that it was planned in advance.
Another thing that shows the planning of the Genocide before, is the way Habyarimana’s plane was predicted to kill politicians who were in opposition to the government and who did not support the Genocide, On the morning of April 7, the Prime Minister, Madam Uwilingiyimana Agathe and ten Belgian soldiers of the United Nations were responsible for her security.
Others killed are the President of the Court for the Protection of the Constitution, Kavaruganda Joseph, ministers Federeriko Nzamurambaho, who was also the President of the PSD party, Me. Felicien Ngango, who was the Vice President of the PSD and his wife Odeta Ubonabenshi,
Faustin Rucogoza who was the Minister of Information from the MDR party and Landouald Ndasingwa from the PL party. All of them were killed by soldiers guarding President Habyarimana.
In the evening of April 6, also in areas like Kacyiru and Kimihurura, the Interahamwe immediately set up barriers and started killing Tutsis. This is also the reason for the killings all over the country, the Tutsis started to be killed because the government had prevented all the people from fleeing.
