In this vote, 320 MPs voted in favor of the plan, while 276, mostly members of the opposition Labor Party, voted against it.
This program is based on the revised agreement between the British Government and Rwanda on December 5, 2023 after the decision of the Supreme Court said that it was unconstitutional.
The Prime Minister of Great Britain, Rishi Sunak, announced that the amendments he made in this agreement will ensure that Rwanda is no longer considered an unsafe country for immigrants.
In order for Sunak’s bill to be approved, it required the approval of members of the National Assembly. Deputies voted in December 2023, supporting it by a majority of 313 votes to 269 against.
While Sunak was waiting for other legislators to vote for this plan, the most important members of the conservative party, including the deputy chiefs; Lee Anderson and Brendan Clarke-Smith, have made it clear that they are not in favor of it.
Anderson and Smith expressed that the reason they do not support this program is that the British Government will invest a lot of money, so they support the project called ‘Cash/Jenrick’ prepared by Robert Jenrick who was the Minister for Immigration.
The adoption of this plan in the British Parliament is a great victory for the Sunak Government because it was thought that it would be very difficult for him. Only those who support it would go to great lengths to see if there is no other way, legal or otherwise, to stop it.
