The Minister of Foreign Affairs of that country, Naledi Pandor warned these South African citizens who were given another citizenship by Israel that the day they return they will be immediately arrested.
He made the announcement at an event to celebrate Palestinian independence in South Africa, where he added that they will be punished by having their South African citizenship revoked if they return.
Minister Nalendi said: “I have issued a statement warning South Africans who would fight on the side of Israel. We are ready when we return home and we will immediately arrest them.”
South Africa in December last year had warned its citizens living in Israel not to interfere in the war between this country and the Hamas group, because it would be a violation of the laws of that country and those at the international level.
South African law stipulates that enlistment in the Israeli army requires prior approval by the relevant authorities and that failure to do so is a punishable offence.
South Africa is one of the African countries that has never spoken out in support of the war between Israel and Hamas, comparing what the Israeli army is doing to genocide and filing a complaint in the UN Court.
UN figures show that now, after five months of the war in Gaza, 85% of the 2.3 million inhabitants have been displaced from their homes.
