Rwanda: Kigeme Refugee Market Burned

Feature News

A market built for refugees from the Kigeme camp in Nyamagabe District near the RUBIS Station has burnt down.

Images posted on X by journalist Oswald Mutuyeyezu show several sparks showing that the place was badly burned.

The report was told by the Southern Province Police Inspector Superintendent of Police (SP) Emmanuel Hitiyaremye that it is suspected that the fire was caused by electricity.
He says that the whole market immediately collapsed.
He said, “We put it out, but I can tell you that it was on fire because it was covered with wood and you could hear the fire reaching the wood and doing bad things.”
Police say they are gathering information on all the incidents to determine their worth.

Fortunately, no one was injured.
