A car traveling from Kamanyola in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (RDC) to Bukavu through Rusizi District was caught in a tornado and the people of Rwanda responded by helping the occupants and their belongings to keep them safe.
He was coming from Kamanyola in the Walungu Territory in the Ruzizi Valley, the road to Bukavu is going through Rwanda, and was driven by a 34-year-old Imani Masanza who was with Ntirata Ntare Emmanuel.
It is said that the Toyota Probox belongs to a company called MAPASA based in RDC with registration number 3853 AE 22.
A fire broke out in Gatovu Village, Rebero Cell, Nzahaha Sector, Rusizi District, but fortunately no one was injured.
According to one of the residents who were at the scene of the accident, the accident happened at 9:30 in the afternoon on Thursday, February 15.
They were surprised to see that the car was engulfed in smoke, and when they saw that it was starting to burn, they rushed to the rescue.
He said, “We saw a lot of smoke, it was starting to burn, the occupants were coming out, we rushed to help them remove all the luggage they were carrying. Fortunately, there was no damage to the passengers and the luggage they were carrying.
The wreckage of the car is still at the scene of the accident, the occupants immediately called their company and sent another car to take them and their luggage home.
Western Provincial Police spokesperson, SP Karekezi Twibanire Bonaventure, confirmed the news saying that the car owners told them that the fire was caused by a fire from the engine wiring.
He said, “It was a Congolese car that was going from Kamanyola to Bukavu, and it got there in the Nzahaha sector and caught fire. The owners told us that it came from the wires of the engine, it was burning and burning, the people inside it because they had seen it before and got it out. They continued to leave and the remains were left there.”
He thanked the people of Nzahaha Sector who helped in the emergency rescue operation and helped the Congolese to remove the luggage, and managed them safely until another vehicle came to take them with their luggage.
