Meet with Jamaican Reggae Legend who chose Kinyarwanda name

You may not know but in Jamaica there is great artist who uses a Kinyarwanda name in his music career.
His original names are Allan Hope, was born in 1952, he is a Jamaican who is Rastafari dub Poet, musician, Actor, Educator, talk show host who developed most radio programmes which are popular in Jamaica: The Cutting Edge and Steppin’ Razor.

His name is popular name in Rwanda country which there is many people in Rwanda use this name as their true names from their parents “Mutabaruka” which means “One who is always victorious”
His music message or theme include Politics, Culture, Black Liberation, social oppression, discrimination, poverty, racism, sexism, and religion.

In 1973, Mutabaruka formed the band Truth, his first attempt to combine his words with music. By now, the poet had converted to Rastafarianism and taken the name Mutabaruka.
Mutabaruka has 8 Albums which are: “Check It” Released it in 1984, In the following year of 1984 he released “Outcry” in 1986 also he dropped out another album called “The Mystery Unfolds“, “Any Which Way….Freedom” was released out in 1989, “Blakk Wi Blak…k…k…” was released in 1991, in 1994 released “Melanin Man” in 2002 he released another album called “Life Squared” in This year of 2023 he has another album called “Black Attack“.

Mutabaruka became known internationally after his performance in 1981 at Reggae Sunplash a reggae music festival first staged in 1978 in northern Jamaica. In 1985.

In 2000 Mutabaruka gave a lecture at Stanford University where who was teaching the difference between Education and Indoctrination , he also worked in film with American film Director who is name is Stephanie Black where Mutabaruka narrated in her film called Life and Debt a documentary about the impact of global economic policy and economy and people of Jamaica.

In 2016, The government of Jamaica awarded Mutabaruka the Order of Distinction, Commander Class (one of the highest distinctions in the country), in recognition of his cultural contributions.
Another thing you can know about Mutabaruka, He is non-smoker means he does not smoke marijuana or anything related to smoke. Many people use to think that all Jamaican or reggae lend use marijuana. But there many artist who do not smoke.
