The M23 unit has imposed a curfew in areas it controls, after being pressured by airstrikes that killed two of its commanders.
These are the instructions issued by this group at the end of the week that ended on Saturday, January 20, 2024, as contained in the announcement of this group.
This announcement came from the Executive Secretariat of M23, saying that these instructions are aimed at maintaining the peace and security of the people in the areas controlled by this group and to protect them.
The announcement continued, “All travel and economic activities and prayer gatherings: Passenger cars and motorcycles, transport activities, bars, boutiques, markets, temples and others, must stop at 6.30pm re-opening at 6.00am on all sections of the M23 until further notice.”
The M23 group adopted these measures after this last week, it faced many problems in the fight against the FARDC after the government army joined forces with the SADC forces to carry out airstrikes that weakened it.
In these attacks, the M23 group did not include many of its fighters, especially two commanders, including Colonel Castro Elise Mberabagabo who was in charge of the intelligence of this group.
The death of the top M23 leaders has devastated the group, according to a statement released on January 17 that said they were killed in the January 16 attacks.
The group said that this act of killing its commanders was a mission given to it by the DRC government, and that it will retaliate accordingly.
