Like many developing countries, Rwanda’s population is generally young. The 5th General Census on the life and housing of Rwandans showed that more than 58% of Rwandans are under 25 years of age, while over 65% are under 30. At the same time, 75% of the population is under 35 years old.
These numbers emphasize that the majority of Rwandans are young people and that in the coming days they will be the ones who will be in charge of the future of Rwanda.
So that when these young people reach their responsibilities and continue to lead the country, there are things that they are required to avoid and the behaviors that should characterize them.
These responsibilities for the future of the youth is a topic that was reiterated by President Kagame this Sunday, during the prayer ceremony for the Nation.
President Kagame asked the youth to avoid living in a cowardly way because it is not God’s will.
He said that Rwanda, as a country that has come a long way and has a difficult history, needs good and appropriate choices because that is what has brought it to where it is today.
He said, “We have not reached where we are going, we still have a long way to go, but wherever we have arrived, it was a choice, it was action, it was acceptance. It’s not just one of these things that will get you there, it’s all of them. When you look at where Rwanda comes from and what it goes through, where it is and where it wants to go, no one, anywhere in the world, can be the one who decides where Rwanda goes from, how it takes it and where it arrives, no one and one, apart from the Rwandans themselves and to believe, and to work with others, but we are in the front.”
President Kagame said that one of the reasons why he made this point is that in those prayers there are young people who can become leaders of the future.
He asked you to rely on the history of Rwanda and have an important lesson to be learned and taught to others.
He continued, “I want you to understand this clearly, when you are at the top, you will prove that our history, the lessons that were included in it, were not wasted, but you have learned something, so the others who will come after you will be educated.”
President Kagame also told the participants of this ceremony, especially the youth, that they should not live in a way of cowardice that has no way and especially that it is not what God wants.
He said, “It is not right to live in a cowardly way. I know that is not what God wants. God does not want to create people to go there and have others believe them to be superior. God created us all the same. We should not accept that inequality between us and between us and others.”
Among other things, the President returned to this ceremony, he emphasized that since Rwanda has lost peace for a long time, it should be done in the best possible way.
