Businesses and shops in several cities in the Kurdish region of western Iran were closed on Tuesday as protests were called to protest the execution a day earlier of four Kurds accused of collaborating with Israel, activists said.
The four were arrested in July 2022 and hanged in a prison in the city of Karaj, on the outskirts of Tehran, with human rights groups saying that the sentence against them was oppressive.
According to activists, the killings have sparked concern over the rise in executions in Iran, where at least two people have been hanged every day this month.
The Norwegian-based Kurdish rights group Hengaw, along with the France-based Kurdistan Human Rights Network, published photos showing closed shops in several cities including Kermanshah, Saqez and Sanandaj.
