The protest was organized by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), which started at the Supreme Court and continued at the office of the President.
Those lawyers staged the protest in order to show their displeasure with the President’s recent words.
Last week, President Ruto was heavily criticized when he publicly announced that he would not abide by some of the court’s decisions, which he confirmed were made by some unnamed judges who are said to be in league with the opposition.
On Thursday, LSK President Eric Theuri emphasized the importance of the rule of law in a press conference, saying: “The president of this country is not above the law. So we don’t expect him to say that he is obeying the court’s decisions and that is what he wants the country to do. It is the Constitution that governs him.”
Theuri went on to point out that if President Ruto continues to attack the judiciary, LSK would consider filing charges against him for “rebellion against the Constitution.”
Key figures in Kenya, including former Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka and former Minister Eugene Wamalwa, both opposition politicians, joined the protesters.
