Joan Mugabo is among the group of 20 Rwandan students who were taken to Turkey to sharpen their skills in piloting.
Turkish newspapers reported that among the 20 graduates, there are two Rwandan women from the Rwandan Army, the youngest of whom is 20-year-old Joan Mugabo.

She said, “There are challenges, but I am proud to have achieved this success. I am proud to be a woman in a male dominated profession. This will inspire the next generation of girls to learn about flying.”
Joan Mugabo also shared this message with her colleagues, including Maurice Nshuti, 26 years old, who said that they represented Rwanda well in the two-year trip, as all 20 of them were given the course and succeeded.
The graduation ceremony for the students was held at the Hezarfen Airport, attended by the Director of AYJET Flight School, Celal Cingöz, the Special Military Counselor at the Embassy of Rwanda in Turkey, Brigadier General Joseph Demali, and others fly.
The director of AYJET Flight School, Celal Cingöz, announced that since 2005, Turkey has started to provide knowledge to foreign students about flying.
