In Rwanda, lightning killed about four worshipers

On the evening of February 15, 2024 in Coko Sector in Kagari Kairima, Matovu Village, Thunder struck 6 people who were going to pray in the forest known as Shaba tree, four of them died immediately.

This information was made known by a mother who was passing by from calling the child at the Coko Health Center, when she saw the dead bodies, she called the authorities and security agencies and they took her to the doctor.

All 6 of these residents were said to have gone to pray in a forest known as a sheba tree where there is usually a tourist lodge.

To find out that they had come to pray next to their dead bodies were Bibles and their bags.
Of the two survivors, one appears to have recovered and the other was injured and is being treated by paramedics.

The spokesperson for the police in the Northern Province, SP Mwaseneza Jeans Bosco confirmed the news, asking the public to avoid sheltering in illegal places during the rainy season because it puts their lives at risk.

He said, “6 people were hit by lightning, 4 of them died and 2 were injured. The injured were sent to Ruli Hospital and treated by doctors.”

He continued, “What we tell the people to avoid lightning is to follow the advice given by the Center for Atmospheric Sciences. Avoid hiding under trees, going into rainwater, plugging in electrical appliances in the rain.”

So far the deceased have been taken to the Hospital so that their families can prepare for their burial.
The administration of Gakenke District says that it is ready to help them in cooperation with MINEMA in order to support them.
