On Monday, March 4, 2024, the French Parliament approved the inclusion of voluntary abortion in the country’s constitution.

Emmanuel Macron’s government had requested that the constitution be changed to include that article.

In the parliamentary elections, about 780 people voted Yes, while about 72 people voted No.
France has become the first country in the world to enshrine in its constitution the right to voluntary abortion.

When he opened the discussion on the subject, the Prime Minister of France, Gabriel Attal, said that France owes all the women who are grieving because of not being able to have a free abortion.

Atal said that the approval of his government’s plan is valuable for France and an important mission abroad.

President Emmanuel Macron in a message written on X, said that it is a day to celebrate the new rights entered into the constitution.
The Catholic Church is among those who have said that they do not support this plan to prevent human life.

The Vatican has already issued a statement that the destruction of human life should not be considered the right of those who do it.
