President Paul Kagame and his colleagues in the region, including Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, met in a meeting to study security issues in the east of this country, and agreed that talks between Rwanda and the DRC should be revived.

The meeting was held in Addis Ababa at the Headquarters of the United African Union, where the Heads of State participated in the 37th General Assembly of the Organization.
They managed to meet in an informal meeting led by the President of Angola, João Lourenço, who is already a mediator in the problems of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

According to a source from the Office of the President of Rwanda, the meeting “was aimed at finding a solution to the root causes of security problems in the eastern part of the DRC, including bad governance, terrorism and acts of violence. ”


Apart from President Paul Kagame of Rwanda, and Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo; who were in this meeting, which also included President William Ruto of Kenya, Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa, João Lourenço of Angola who led it, and the President of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat.

The President of Angola, João Lourenço, returning to the purpose of this meeting, said that it aims to find a way to stop the war between FARDC and M23, and to resume talks between Rwanda and DRC.

He said, “There should also be a discussion process between President Paul Kagame and his colleague Tshisekedi because security issues continue to intensify.”
President Felix Tshisekedi, who often accused Rwanda of being involved in the security problems in his country, in this meeting he said it again thanks to the Office of the President of the Republic of DRC.

The Presidency of the DRC, says that “This meeting also discussed the lack of constructive and reconciliation talks between the DRC and Rwanda, the immediate cessation of hostilities and the withdrawal of M23 from the areas it has taken, and the initiation of ways to rehabilitate this group.”

This meeting takes place at a time when the fighting between M23 and FARDC has taken another look, after the DRC has called in other forces including Burundi and SADC, all of which continue to fight and cooperate with armed groups including the FDLR.

This meeting took place two months later, the President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Felix Tshisekedi said again that he was re-elected for his second term, and after winning, he will attack Rwanda.


The Government of Rwanda and its leaders such as President Paul Kagame, who has often shown that Rwanda has nothing to do with the problems in eastern DRC, also said that it will continue to protect its sovereignty, so that there will be no threat to the security of Rwandans, because the future In any case, Rwanda’s security agencies are standing firm, they would have returned it.
