Chad: President Idriss Deby confirmed his candidacy in the elections.

The transitional leader of Chad, Mahamat Idriss Déby, has confirmed that he will present his candidacy in the Presidential elections scheduled for May 6, 2024.

France 24 reported that the transitional President of Chad, Mahamat Idriss Déby, confirmed his candidacy just three days after his rival was killed in the chaos, Déby took power in 2021 after his father, Idriss Déby Itno, died in a war with rebels.

In his speech, Idriss said: “I, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, am a candidate for the 2024 presidential election.”  The leader announced that he will announce it shortly after Yaya Dillo Djerou was about to die in N’Djamena City.

Human rights organizations have called for an investigation into the killing of Dillo, who was the leader of the opposition Socialist Party Without Borders, Déby has vowed to become a transitional president in 2022 and promised to go to power through elections.

On Wednesday of last week, President Déby said at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that when he took power in 2021, the military took the country out of hell and chaos.
