The European Union’s foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, accused the Israeli government of supporting Hamas.
Josep Borrell has not said much about the accusations that have been made against the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, in the Israeli media that this country is one of the sponsors of the group even though it is now sweating it.
When he gave his speech at the University of Valladolid in Spain, Josep Borrell pointed out that the Government of Israel supported the Hamas group in order to weaken the Palestinian Authority.
He said, “You were supported by the Israeli government to weaken the Palestinian Authority which was led by Fatah.”
These are accusations that the Prime Minister of this country, Benjamin Netanyahu, categorically denied.
Prime Minister Netanyahu is often heard in the media accusing Iran of helping the group by providing it with money, military training, weapons, intelligence and more.
Israel also accuses Iran of being behind an attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023, which killed more than 1,200 people and took hostages of the group.
The country immediately returned Hamas to the war, which has killed more than 24,000 people, and said it aims to win back the group, which took root in Gaza in 2007.
However, there are reports that Prime Minister Netanyahu has been accused of supporting Hamas in recent years.
These allegations showed that Netanyahu himself allowed financial support to the group in order to disrupt security and prevent negotiations between them and Palestine.
As recently as 2019, he himself once said that “anyone who wants no Palestinian state should support Hamas and send them money.”
Josep Borell, who pointed out that Israel has played an important role in the movement of Hamas, insists that the possible way to stop the conflict between Israel and Palestine is to establish an independent Palestinian State without requiring Israel to be the one to approve it.
