The boat that was going from Goma to Bukavu in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, had a problem with the driver who failed to steer it properly and found himself on the shore in the Rwandan part of Nyawenya Village, Bigoga Cell, Nkombo Sector in Rusizi District. an accident where five other small boats from Rwanda were destroyed.
Rwanda Police Spokesperson, ACP Rutikanga Boniface, told Kigali Today that the boat had a problem on Monday, March 11, 2024, due to the fact that its driver failed to steer it, due to an unknown problem.

He said, “The cause of this accident is not yet known, it is suspected to be a technical problem, but an investigation is being conducted to find out the exact cause, only among the 33 passengers who were on this boat, no one was injured or lost their lives, and now they are all on the side of Rwanda to be taken back. in Congo”.

ACP Rutikanga says that although no one was injured in the accident, this boat from Congo damaged five (5) other small boats on the Rwandan side.

ACP Rutikanga says that the boat went astray in Rwanda from Congo, so it needs another boat to take it, while the Congolese are looking for a way to return home by foot.
He said, “The Department of Immigration in Rusizi District is looking for a way to repatriate these residents to their country, crossing the border without crossing the water.”
