A French journalist was arrested in Ethiopia when he attended the last meeting of the African Union in this country.
The journalist was arrested during an interview with the spokesperson of the opposition party.
Antoine Galindo, who works for Africa Intelligence, a newspaper based in Paris, France, was arrested by the security forces on Thursday of last week.
Media agency Indigo Publications reports that Galindo had arrived in Ethiopia earlier this month to report on the annual meeting of the African Union and had a permit to work as a journalist.
Galindo was arrested during an interview with Bate Urgressa, the spokesperson of the opposition Oromo Liberation Front.
This Bate was also arrested and imprisoned and is still in jail, according to the International Organization to Protect Journalists, the Committee to Protect Journalists.
The Ethiopian news agency, AFP, says that the Ethiopian government has not yet said anything about Galindo’s arrest.
Indigo Publications reported that a judge on Friday ordered Galindo to be remanded in custody until Wednesday, on charges of “conspiracy to cause unrest in Ethiopia.”
According to CPJ, Ethiopia is the second-most imprisoning country in sub-Saharan Africa.
