When he was campaigning for a second term, President Tshisekedi had announced that when there was a bomb attack by the Alliance Fleuve Congo in Goma, he would immediately hold a meeting of Deputies and Senators and attack Rwanda in Goma.
On Thursday, President Tshisekedi said that the dialogue process is the best solution to the problems in his country.
He said, “People keep the word “escarmouche” (provocative) in their heads, you know that word is poisonous. But they should not forget what would happen if there was a response to this provocation.
First of all, there had to be these houses (Deputies and Senate). We wage war according to the Constitution. We publish it when these two bodies meet, giving us permission.
The way we are now, I can tell you, I am the first to see what is happening. This situation does not allow me to implement what I had said. Not because I can’t do it, or because I don’t want to, but because there are many actions that lead to the pursuit of peace being the wisest path, rather than war.”
He said that among these efforts leading to peace is the plan of the president of Angola,
João Lourenço, and the program of the President of the East African Community, EAC, Salva Kiir arrived in Kigali, and will also go to Kinshasa and Bujumbura in the process of talks.
The United States also has the option of finding a solution to the problem through dialogue.
He said, “What matters to me is peace. I want peace.”
President Tshisekedi added that when peace would be found in negotiations, he would agree with both hands, and that even when it would require war for peace to be found, he would agree with both hands.
