The front three continued to work well together, but the second group led by the Soudal-QuickStep team began to chase them past the town of Huye with a gap of 4 minutes remaining, They arrived in Huye region and continued towards the University of Rwanda where they continued to the Mukura sector and to Kanyaru near the border.

In the last 20 kilometers of the race, the three riders who had been leading the race were overtaken by the group, the race was started by Milan Donie of the Lotto-Dstny team, but closely managed by Alexander Meyer of Mauritius. With 13 miles to go, Manizabayo Eric broke out of the group first, leaving the others 12 seconds behind, but Teugels of Bingoal immediately followed him and caught up with him.

At about 5 kilometers, the group came to meet the two leaders, and then began to manage so that no one would pass them blindly. In the last 4 miles, Pierre Latour of Total Energies who played Tour de France, and Zeray Araya of Eritrea broke away from the group.

It was not their luck because the group came to them, the players reached the finish line but the Israeli Itamar Einhorn (Israel-Premier Tech) allowed them to cross the line, winning the Muhanga-Kibeho area.
