On this Friday 24th November 2023, Somalia became eighth country to join East Africa after Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). this happened during the 23rd region’s summit of heads of state held in Arusha Tanzania, after negotiations they have approved Somalia as eighth country to join EAC.

Somalia used to be a country with wars since 1991, and many people in East Africa region know this country as a country with poor people, because of conflict related to Al-Shabab attacks, violence continues to restrict trade and market activities.

Despite all this, we should not ignore that Somalia is large country with natural resources with people like to work hard, Somalia has untapped reserves of numerous natural resources like uranium, iron ore, tin, gypsum, bauxite, copper, salt and more include natural gas.

So, When countries join together they can protect each other, they share ideas on how to produce natural resources. This means Somalia if it joins EAC there are many things to consider and they will collaborate to fight and against terrorist groups in these countries, even though the DRC seems to have failed not only because of DRC leadership and tere are many disagreements with some countries of EAC like Uganda and Rwanda.

Somalia’s entrance into the EAC will now pave way for the admission of its neighbours, Eritrea and Djibouti, which have also been targeted in EAC’s expansion plan to include the entire horn of Africa, including Ethiopia and possibly Sudan.
