The Gakenke Modern Library is one of the largest libraries in Rwanda. This farm, which was completed in 2017, costs over 600 million Rwandan francs, and has the capacity to slaughter more than 600 cows per day.
In the campaign organized by the USAID Orora Wihaze Project in collaboration with the RICA Institute, Livestock breeders, breeders, consumers and meat traders are reminded that the quality and hygiene of animal products, mainly meat, are important to save the lives of many.
Dr Nizeyimana Benjamin, head of Orora Wihaze in the Northern Province, says: “The first objective is to educate people and show them the guidelines for the compliance of the chain of animal products, especially meat.
Here we explain to them that the meat is not of good quality and not clean enough, instead of fighting bad nutrition, it causes the risk of various diseases. We found that all categories including breeders, carpenters, traders and meat eaters need to understand what the quality laws provide to help them take care of it”.
Niyonsenga Aimé François, Acting Mayor of Gakenke District reminds the people that quality starts from the way the animal is raised, where it is raised, how it is slaughtered, where it is slaughtered, how the meat is transported and how it is stored.
He said: “It must be raised in a fair way, fed with grass and clean water, vaccinated and free from disease, the cleanliness of its bridge is taken care of, it will be slaughtered and processed in an approved slaughterhouse that meets all the
requirements and the meat will be kept in refrigerators before delivering it to the consumer this prevents meat spoilage and animal theft.” The administration of Gakenke District warns those who violate the observance of the quality of meat in order to avoid further endangering the lives of many.
Gakenke District is one of the five districts that make up the Northern Province of Rwanda, Gakenke District has an area of 704.06 Km2, 19 sectors; 97 cells and 617 villages, Gakenke District is inhabited by 382, 932 people. Population density is 540 per Km2. 193,041 women (50.4%), 189,891 men (49.6%).
